NSW CMAs have received $838.5 million in funding from the Australian and NSW Governments since their inception in 2004. CMAs have invested a large proportion of this funding, $659.8 million, directly to on-ground projects. For every $1 invested by government, NSW CMAs have attracted a further $2.20 worth of cash and in-kind support from their communities and partners, to see a total $2.11 billion invested in practical environmental works in the past five years. This is a measure of strong community support for CMAs, with significant value-adding based on trusted partnerships with individual landholders, industries, business, local councils and community groups CMAs have current funding sources from the Australian Government – Caring for our Country Initiative and from the NSW Government - Catchment Action NSW. This multi-level government support has allowed complex environmental issues to be tackled with great precision at the catchment level, and CMAs have played the important role of gathering funds from a variety of sources and delivering them to priority regional projects. CMAs have also taken the initiative to develop their own investment strategies and to broaden their revenue streams to complement government funding.
